    A Portfolio Approach

Flint Private Client offers a truly bespoke insurance contract that is built around your needs to incorporate such things as house, holiday homes (and their various contents), plus cars, boats and any other vehicles, often in a single policy.

Where appropriate – and following a detailed analysis of your needs – our team will seek to put in place a single ‘portfolio’ policy, tailored to your requirements with one insurer, one renewal date and managed by a dedicated Client Manager.

A Flint portfolio policy would typically include the following cover :

    • Worldwide cover for all your contents and possessions
    • Full accidental damage cover for buildings, contents, and fine art as standard
    • Cover for jewellery, watches, fine art, antiques, collectables, designer clothing, and high value accessories
    • Warranty free cover – no onerous security conditions and the like
    • Motor – single cars to family fleets including classic cars
    • Choice of repairer, like for like car replacement, agreed value
    • Annual travel cover with higher claim limits for more expensive trips
    • 24 hour home emergency cover
    • Legal expenses

Our overarching aim is to build a long-term relationship with our clients. This puts us in the best position to arrange the widest possible cover, best suited to your needs at a price that is competitive.

    Questions you might have

Why do I need a high value home insurance policy?

Not all home insurance is the same. Larger properties, with higher sums insured, require bespoke cover to make sure the right protection is put in place.

Standard household insurance will invariably have restrictive limits on valuable items. Standard home upper limits are inadequate for high net worth properties, so any loss would likely be underinsured.

How do I calculate how much cover I need?

When you buy insurance through Flint expert brokers, we talk you through how to calculate the correct contents sums insured and how to obtain an accurate buildings sum insured.

Several of our high value insurers will also survey your property and set agreed sums insured for your insurance contract, thereby avoiding any chance of underinsurance.

Do I need specialist insurance for my listed home?

Yes. Listed properties are invariably expensive to repair and reinstate following a loss. The skilled tradesmen and the specialist materials required to sympathetically restore heritage and listed properties are expensive. You need an expert broker, with access to insurers who understand the needs of these types of older properties to make sure you are properly covered.

Do I have to list all my possessions and valuables to be covered?

Good quality high value insurers will automatically have higher limits on your high value items – often meaning that you don’t need to list absolutely everything. Part of our service is to discuss your required high value items and find the best policy for your needs.

How often should I update my jewellery and fine art valuations?

Most insurers recommend re-valuations every 3-5 years. Flint has agreements with a range of valuation experts and can secure good deals to help make this job easier. It is incredibly important to keep up with correct valuations, so that if the worst does happen – you get a true replacement value.

How can I reduce my insurance costs?

There are a number of options that we can discuss with you, such as increased claims excess; how home security might reduce your premiums, and the part of your premium that is associated with jewellery and watches.

I am having building work done at my home do I need to tell my insurer?

Yes. All household policies carry limits as to the amount of building work that is acceptable to them. Please speak to us so that we can provide you with the best advice.

I am considering letting my home out, how will that affect my home insurance?

‘General’ household insurance would not provide cover for letting out a high value home. Speak with our Private Client team and we can discuss the specific risks involved, the policy inclusions required, and the best providers for your needs.

My home will be left unoccupied for a period of time should I tell my insurer?

Yes. All household insurance – including high value – policies carry specific limits on the amount of time that the property can be left unoccupied, but this does vary and can be as short as 21 days.

However, high value home insurance is generally more flexible, with longer limits.

Speak to the Private Client team about the best cover for your unique requirements.

I own a number of properties can I have one insurance policy?

Yes. Portfolio insurance policies allow for a mix of properties, e.g. family home, second home, holiday home and investment properties in one convenient insurance contract.

Past experience has shown that insuring all your properties in one policy can often achieve better coverage and save money.

All properties can be included from the outset; we will look at the financial implications for varying scenarios and advise accordingly.

Please note: In many situations, there will be existing insurance policies in place. In these circumstances, we can pre-agree policy terms with the insurance provider and then move the properties into a single policy as the respective current cover expires.

My insurance affairs are quite complicated can I meet someone?

Yes. We are happy to meet face-to-face (or video call) so that we can spend time with you to accurately assess your insurance needs.

I need advice about home security can an insurance broker help?

Flint Private Clients work with a range of expert providers who can advise on all aspects of home security, including, but not limited to: alarms, CCTV, safes, etc.

When you speak with us, mention your security needs or concerns and we’ll provide expert advice.

How do I buy high value home insurance?

In order to select an insurance policy and quote that is perfectly tailored to your needs, a member of our Private Client team will need to speak with you to answer a range of important questions about you, your property(s) and any further assets to be covered as part of the policy (high value cars, jewellery, artwork, boats, etc). We will assess your unique insurance needs and identify the key parts (and values) of the cover you require in your high value policy.

You can contact us via telephone on 0800 840 3156 (9:00 am to 6:30 pm Monday to Thursday, and 9:00 am to 5:30 pm on Friday). Alternatively, fill out the form on this webpage and we will be pleased to call you back at a time that is convenient for you.

Do you offer price matching for cheaper quotes?

If you already have a quote from another premium home insurance provider, please share this with us and ask us for a competing quote. As an insurance broker, we are able to negotiate rates on your behalf from a wide panel of UK insurers, often at preferable rates. We will endeavour to find you the same policy cover for a lower price.

I have made a number of insurance claims - can I still obtain high quality cover?

We have access to a wide range of insurers, including some who do not deal directly with the public, but only via an insurance broker. This includes insurers who specialise in more difficult to place risks, such as those with a high claims frequency. Speak to us, we can often allay your fears!

How long are the insurance quotes valid for?

The majority of insurance quotes from Flint are valid for 30 days. However, the validity period can vary across both insurers and the quotes provided. We will confirm the validity period when we provide you with a quote. If you do not take up the quote within the validity period, a reassessment of your insurance needs will need to be carried out and a new quote established. This may differ from the original, depending on changes within the insurance market.

    When will the cover start?

Once the Private Client team has spoken with you and researched the best household insurance quotes for your property(s), we will move quickly to confirm the insurance cover options. When we have mutually agreed on the best policy for you, we will action the policy with the insurance firm and confirm the cover with you. Once we provide you with the confirmation, you will have immediate insurance cover.
