Keep on Running

Published: 12/04/2016

Michelle's Second Time Around

After having completed the London Marathon in 2013, Flint's Associate Director, Michelle Gould has resumed her training hoping to better her time for 2016. This year's marathon is extra special because Michelle is running to raise funds for the transplant unit at Kings College Hospital, who safely saw her father through a life saving liver transplant operation in 2015. Michelle's Dad suffers from the genetic disorder Hemochromatosis, where the body absorbs too much iron, which had damaged his liver beyond repair. Naturally Michelle and all of her family are indebted to the fantastic team who saved her dad's life and she wants to give something back.

Michelle's planning a number of other charity events and as of 1st Feb – she hadn't touched a drop of alcohol, or tea or coffee – wow – now that is dedication!

Courir la Course

On Sunday 3 April Nadya Cleal ran along the Champs Elysee, Place de la Concorde, Rue de Rivoli, past the Louvre, Hotel de Ville and Notre Dame and all of that even before she'd reached the 5k mark at the Bastille. As you've probably guessed this race in the beautiful French capital was the Paris Schneider Electric Marathon. Nadya, a broker in the Flint Personal Lines Team ran to raise £1000 for George Maloney, a wonderful little boy whose life has been forever changed by Meningitis contracted at birth. This terrible illness left George with quadriplegic dystonic cerebral palsy, making his physical ability very limited and in need of constant and intensive physiotherapy. And the more treatment he has whilst he is young, the better his prognosis will be. Well done Nadya.

Meghan's Fight for Sight

Our receptionist Meghan Cole has decided to run the London Marathon to support Tommy Salisbury's Fight for Sight fund. Tommy was diagnosed in 2005 with the rare eye condition Choroideremia, which means that over the next 30 years his sight will deterioate until he is eventually blind. Since then Tommy's family and friends have raised money for research at Imperial College London and in 2011 the first worldwide clinical trial took place; around 20 men took part in the trial with amazing results. There's still much work to do for the treatment to be made properly available and so fund raising continues. Over the last 10 years a staggering £475,000 has been raised and Emma Sailsbury, Tommy's mum was voted Tesco Achieving Mum of the Year in 2015.
