Adverse Weather Claims

Aviva has asked us to reassure our clients that their claims teams have already worked very hard to put a robust plan in place in order to deal with claims resulting from the adverse weather conditions. They have expert field surveyors, loss adjusters and claims handlers all on hand, with the intention of dealing with claims as quickly as possible.

Underwriter insight suggests that the weather could have similar consequences to the St Jude storm so it is very important that we work together to help those affected to get back on their feet as soon as possible.

As a reminder, here's what we can do to help

We need to ensure that underwriters get the right information on the first call. Aviva has stated that their desk surveyors can often cash settle low value claims quickly, freeing up their field surveyors to visit the site of complex claims. So, if you’re reporting a claim to us, this is what insurers will need:

  • Get as much information about the damage as possible. Where is the damage? What’s the extent of the damage e.g. if damaged slates – how many?
  • Where possible, please get an estimate for repair which includes a full breakdown of the costs involved.
  • If you can take photographs of the damage as this will help underwriters assess the best way to settle the claim.
  • In some cases it may be quicker for the underwriter to speak to you direct – where we think that this is applicable we will provide contact details. From our point of view we will try not to make any non-urgent enquiries during the bad weather, to free up the phones to help urgent claims.
  • Flint’s commercial and claims teams will also be on hand – any problems or questions please call us immediately.
